February News & Update

Hello Everyone,

Some of you may know me, if not my name is Tim McClure. I’ve just been elected as the new president of the club. Yeah, what was I thinking? I like shooting and I wanna keep the range open, so what the heck. A little about my self. I’m a 6 year Navy veteran. My rating was Boatswain’s Mate. I’ve been a computer technician for the last 30 years. I enjoy shooting rifle and pistol mostly. I occasionally dust off my shotgun. I also enjoy fishing and hunting small game. I haven’t done much bird hunting, but I’d like to learn more.

With the new pistol range, I’m excited about the coming year. We also have a lot we’d like to still do. In regards to our facility, our club house is in bad shape. One of our priorities is to replace it. Our goal is to have a new building by 2020. We plan to start out modest by getting a building up. With a possibility of adding a restroom and a kitchen at a later date. Of course the challenge will be funding it. We plan to do so by growing our membership and holding fund raisers. If any of you have experience with fundraising, please contact me. We need your help.

In addition we’d like to hold more activities at the club. For example a black powder shoot. There is also a lot of interest in steel pistol shoots. Again we are looking for help with that. So if you are interested in volunteering and organizing please contact me. We will continue the twice a month, Sunday trap shoot as soon as the weather improves and mud season is over.

We’ll also be adding an events calendar to our website shortly. So keep an eye out for it. If you have not had a chance to sign up for website notifications I encourage you to visit our web page and sign up. If you are on Facebook, look us up too. And as always, our meetings are the third Wednesday of the month at 7pm. Its a great opportunity to voice your wants and get involved.

On that note, I look forward to seeing you at the range.

January Meeting

Lisbon Fish & Game Members,

We hope that you had a good ending to 2017. With a new year ahead of us, we have a few projects and events for the range. For this months meeting, we will be having our elections. Currently we have the Presidents’ position open for a member who may be interested. The other Club officer’s positions are open, the vice president, secretary and treasurer plus a position on the Board of Directors. If there is no interest in the position of VP, secretary and treasurer, the current officer in that position has opted to stay for another year. The Board of Director position is for 3 years.

The meeting will be held in the American Legion’s upstairs meeting room at 7 PM. Items to be discussed will cover sunset hour notification as well as other Club business and questions or concerns from the membership.

We will be having our game supper in February. If you still have some leftover game that you would like to share, please keep us in mind and let us know. The date for the supper/meeting, is Feb. 21st, 6 PM, at the American Legion’s downstairs area.

For future thought, one area we want to explore is the organization of pistol shoots. To do this we would like some help from our members. If you have experience with organizing pistol shoots and would like to take the challenge, please get in touch with one of our officials or attend a meeting. The trap shoots will continue on the first and third Sundays of the summer months.

Range Update & Other News

The new handgun range is ready and open for use. Tables and target stands are set up.  You must remain at the firing line while shooting. However you are free to place  target stands anywhere between you and the back berm.  Additional stands are available in the clubhouse.

Be aware, the handgun range is open for use at the same time as trap shoots are scheduled. And that both the handgun and rifle range can be in use simultaneously.

Be sure to read the rules concerning the handgun range. Also when entering the range, use the path to the range.  Do not park down by the trap house. You may find yourself down range of active shooters at the rifle range.

Other News: November’s meeting will be held at the American Legion Post 158. There is no December meeting. And we will be voting in new officers at the January meeting. This includes one board position as well.

New Handgun Range Update

The berm for the new range is complete.  It looks great!  However the range is not open for shooting yet. We still need to dress the berms with grass seed to control erosion. In addition, range rules are being updated. And we need tables and portable target stands.

Here’s a shout out to Carl Houston Jr. and his son Chris Houston for doing  a fantastic job.  These guys went above and beyond what was asked of them. Not only did they build the berm, they graded and prepped the grounds. And installed a culvert.

New Pistol Range

This coming Wednesday, the 16th, we will have our monthly meeting at the clubhouse.

Information about the progress of the new pistol range and other information, will be discussed.  We will need to have a “work day” soon. The date has not been decided yet.

What we would like to have is a large turnout for this work day so we can get started with the pistol range. Trees need to cut and the brush moved out of the way to make way for the ground work.

The weather is another big factor but maybe we might get lucky and have a good stretch of decent weather. If all this comes together, we just might get this new pistol range up and running this year.

There’s more than one thing that must fall into place and extra help on work days is always a plus. Time and good weather will predict the outcome.

See you at the meeting.

May Update

Conditions at the range as of Tuesday, April 25th are muddy. With the rain this week, the ground will be soaked for a while.

I also noticed a lot of brass on the ground by the 25 yrd berm. Please be sure to police yourself. Brass and lawnmowers don’t go well together.

Beginning in May, trap shooting is scheduled at Noon, for the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. Members are $3 a round and non-members are $4. While the shoot goes on the rifle range will not be available.

May’s meeting will be at the club house.
