Range Etiquette

  • Use of the range requires courtesy and patience from everyone.
  • Wait until other shooters have finished their string of fire before asking for a ceasefire.
  • If someone is waiting to go down range be prompt in finishing your shots. Be sure your gun is clear and safe.
  • Promptly take care of your target so as to not unnecessarily hold up other shooters.
  • If possible bring binoculars or a spotting scope rather than going down range to check your group.
  • Get the attention of all shooters when calling for a cease fire. Remember that everyone will be wearing hearing protection.
  • All firearms must be in a Clear and Safe condition when a shooter is down range. Do not touch your gun while a shooter is down range.

Firing Line

  • Fire only from the firing point directly lined up with your target(s).
  • Never stand in front of the firing line when other members are present.

Targets

  • Use only paper or self-sealing paper targets.
  • Metal, glass, cans, plastic containers, etc. are not permitted.
  • Be sure targets are properly placed so that rounds impact the target. Avoid shooting the target posts and frame at the rifle range.
  • Do not attach targets directly on to posts or frame.
  • Ensure your target is positioned so that rounds impact and are stopped by the berm.
  • Never place targets above or to the side of a berm.

Unacceptable Firearms

  • Shotguns with bird shot or buckshot are never allowed on the rifle or pistol ranges.
  • To pattern a shotgun, use the patterning frame to the left of the rifle range. Targets can be found in the outhouse.
  • Fifty caliber BMG rifles are not allowed at any time.
  • You may shoot fifty caliber muzzle loaders (Black powder).
  • Fully automatic weapons are allowed only after calling the Lisbon PD at 353-2500 to let them know what you are doing. If you are shooting a fully automatic firearm be absolutely sure you keep your rounds from going over the berm or hitting the target frame.

Spent Brass

  • Police your firing area. Please pick up all your brass when finished shooting. You may dispose of your brass in the can.
  • Any brass put in the can becomes the property of the club. Members are welcome to salvage spent brass for reloading only.
  • Brass is a hazard when mowing the lawn.
  • Misfires or dud rounds shall be placed in the orange live ammo bucket.

Trash

Trash cans are for range trash only (empty ammo boxes and used targets etc.) Trash cans are not intended for household trash.

There should be a trash can at each range. Dispose of your trash only in the trash cans. We don’t have paid staff here for range maintenance. So, if you find a trash can is full, empty it. You can leave the plastic bag outside the club house if you don’t want to dispose of it yourself.

Please don’t hesitate to pick up any trash you may find. After all this is your club.

Zero Tolerance

The Lisbon Fish & Game Association has a zero-tolerance policy towards anyone found under the influence or using alcohol, marijuana or any illegal drugs while on club property. Anyone found in violation of this policy will be immediately brought before the board pending revocation of membership.

Closing Comments

Treat the range as if you owned it because as a member, you do.

Do not litter or be too proud to pick up another person’s litter. Maybe they dropped it without realizing it.

Question anyone doing wrong. Seniority is not an excuse for unsafe practices. Even new members should question or report unsafe actions by others.

Be disciplined enough to do the right thing. Every unsafe, unlawful, un-sportsman like conduct, or unethical action with a firearm destroys a little bit more of our rights to keep and bear arms. We build our reputation every day. Don’t take shortcuts.

And finally, we have work weekends periodically. We need active members who will assist with projects and help maintain our ranges and facility. This can also be a fun family event with supervised children.

We don’t have a grounds keeper. We rely on volunteers to mow the lawn. An active member is an asset. And a club is only as good as its members.
