Winter Postals

Are you interested in winter postals? Contact our VP Dan Cornish!

This January will start the 101st year of Maine State Postals. For those who aren’t familiar with the event; there are a half dozen disciplines shot, with NRA Conventional Pistol being the most popular (a.k.a. Bullseye). Last year approximately sixty individuals, forming sixteen teams, shot weekly for twelve weeks, with their best scores for the week submitted for record.
Conventional Pistol is shot with .22 caliber pistol, open or optic sights, one hand, standing. The course of fire is;
Slow Fire, ten rounds in ten minutes,
Timed Fire, two strings of five, twenty seconds each,
Rapid Fire, two strings of five, ten seconds each,
Shot at fifty feet on B2 and B3 targets.
There are smaller groups shooting for individual score in I.S.S.F. Centerfire Pistol and Sport Pistol, (.22). These are half courses of thirty rounds, half Slow Fire and half Rapid Fire. Rapid Fire is three strings of five shots on turning targets, also know as dueling. The starting position is low ready, the target is on edge for seven seconds and turns to face the shooter for three seconds.
In addition, there are spots for Air Rifle, Air Pistol and NRA Conventional Rifle.
If there are members interested in participating in any of the events or in forming a pistol team; please let me know and I will investigate a place to shot. Precision Pistol may lack some of the excitement of U.S.P.S.A. or Steel Challenge, but it is an excellent way to work on fundamentals and hone your marksmanship.
